Arteria. Alinea Backpack

2019 Proof of Concept Prototyping

Context

Artéria is a Brazilian brand of intelligent handmade products, carefully designed and developed as part of a Slow Fashion approach. The two creators, Elene Veguin and Julia Sentelhas, studied fashion and accessories at the London College of Fashion and Polimoda Florence. Facilitating and improving people’s lives with design is what motivates both creatives.

Step 1 – Proof of Concept

We accompanied Artéria in the creation of a backpack and a fannypack which embed a lighting technology. The aim here was to create a collection that would improve the visibility of the persons wearing it. Our team was able to bring the necessary technologies in order to make this innovation possible while working closely with their design team, in order to offer an aesthetic and functional product.

We have chosen to use organic electroluminescence because this technology was matching the minimalist design requirements as well as it has a very low energy consumption.

Step 2 – Prototyping

The organic electroluminescence involves the use of a conductive organic ink: a material which is reacting to an electric field that makes it bright.
It has the advantage of being washable once the power box (which contains a battery and an electric transformer) is unplug.

« We don’t work with collections; we strive to create the new, the unusual, transforming a dream of a design into the delight of its completion. »
