Première Vision. Charging Nomadic Dock

2016 Design Prototyping Tooling & Go to Market

Context

Première Vision is a global event for Fashion Professionals. It takes place twice a year, during 3 days in Paris Nord Villepinte. The project was launched during the 2016 edition when they asked us to design and manufacture a leather pouch that allows to recharge smartphones by electromagnetic induction.

Step 1 – Design

The design work consisted in shaping a product that was both light and elegant. As this nomadic charging dock is designed to slip into a blaser’s pocket, we worked to bring recharge thickness down around to 1 cm. The design and structure of the leather has been specially thought out in order to offer an optimal grip, so that the smartphone can be easily slid in and out of the pocket while ensuring that it remains in the right place.

Step 2 – Prototyping

Our team of electronic and mechanical engineers has developed a first prototype embedding a wireless charging technology using on-board electromagnetic induction (using a 3000mAh capacity), compatible with the international Qi charging standard. Then, we coated it in vegetable-tanned cowhide leather from Tuscany.

Step 3 – Tooling & Go to Market

A specific metal mould (faithful to the prerogatives of the final prototype) was developed in order to launch the industrialization phase of the project.
